“Nehalennia”

An original portrait of Nehalennia, the ancient goddess of the North Sea, often associated with seafaring, protection and safe passage.

I wanted this piece to capture a quieter side of Nehalennia — calm, watchful and deeply connected to the sea and the land around it. Her adornments draw on the imagery associated with her, such as shells and sea-glass.

This artwork is painted in Gansai Tambi watercolour and Micron pen on 300 gsm cold press paper, with the texture of the paper showing through the softer washes and fine linework.
