I recently felt called to draw Damara. I hadn’t touched my Kuretaki Gansai paints since last Christmas as I’ve been focusing on pen drawings, particularly because they’d translate into my new book quiet well.
Damara wanted colour.
(I’ll add that Hecate also wanted colour for hers so I used pencil on a photocopy and was told “those colours are wrong”)
So over a few days I brought colour to Damara’s line work that had sat for too long.
I’m really happy with it, and felt guided for the most part in how to do each bit. Ensuring that I didn’t rush the process was helpful for my soul (and ego).
Damara is a Celtic Goddess of fertility and the care of Children. It is said she is also a Faery Princess. Whether she is a legit Goddess or not remains to be said, as there is literature now debunking her existence. But we all know I love a Deity who never began as a Deity!
That said… I first met her through Inner Child work I was doing on myself where she made it known quite strongly that of she doesn’t believe you are ready to meet your Inner Child, it won’t happen.
Below is an Invocation I wrote for her, many moons ago.
INVOCATION TO DAMARA
© BookOfEucalypt 2015
Damara, Goddess of children, fertility, and
Faerie Princess of the British Isles,
I call to you this night.
As fierce protector of the Inner Child
I ask for your guidance as I being my journey in
Connecting with my Inner Child.
Guide me to be caring and understanding with the
child that is in essence myself.
As my body may grow old, the Child remains forever young.
Help me to reconnect with my inner joy,
My inner creativity, and the child-like innocent mind.
Guide me to create harmony with my Inner Child
So that we may work together to play, and enjoy life!
Hail Damara!
